Temperance

Moderation in good things, abstaining from things that are harmful

Teaching How to Stay in Control

Temperance is a fruit of the Spirit, often now referred to as self-control. It is also an expression of long held Christian convictions. The principle is that all things that are harmful should be avoided entirely and that everything else must be used in moderation.

"Say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age." Titus 2:12
Removing Addictions

The havoc that is caused by addictions of any kind serve as a living illustration for why temperance is important. The issues related to addictions amongst the poor are exasperated quickly as the earnings are so low that choices of poor stewardship can have devastating consequences for the entire family!

A Biblical Approach

Selfishness is at the root of intemperance. We promote a life of dedication to God informed by His word, the Bible. The mind must be clear in order to understand the things of the Holy Spirit, so clouding it with overeating, chemicals of any form, and uncontrolled emotions can hinder our growth.

Preventing Domestic Violence

Our classes include the whole family and community. We model a respect for the work of women and men and engage both genders in the act of cooking, gardening, and much more. Some how, through the interactive classes and conversations that follow, we are finding that domestic violence is reduced and relationships are improving.
