Hope in the Soil- a 100+ Year Old Vision Coming to Fruition
Having returned from Uganda a few weeks ago, I have fresh images in my mind of women who were so eager to show our FARM STEW team their vegetable gardens. Many had a few enormous vegetables that they were saving for seeds. The beautiful cycle of life is so inspiring.
Over 100 years ago, a woman named Ellen White gave practical advice on how to help the poor. It's being lived out today through FARM STEW Team members in Uganda. "We did what we could to develop our land, and encouraged our neighbors to cultivate the soil, that they too might have fruits and vegetables of their own. We taught them how to prepare the soil, what to plant, and how to take care of the growing produce. They soon learned the advantages of providing for themselves in this way." (Welfare Ministry p. 328)
It reminded me of these words. “There is hope in the soil, but brain and heart and strength must be brought into the work of tilling it.” (Special Testimonies on Education p. 100) That's what is happening! Praise God!
