Tent camping in a Refugee Camp. Is that on your "Bucket List"?

Joy Kauffman, MPH

I'm so excited!

This time next week I'll be in Uganda in the Adjumani Refugee Camp with some extraordinary people!

I'll be with 14 of our FARM STEW African trainers, all of whom are committed to share the recipe of abundant life with the most vulnerable African families.  Believe me, these refugees are vulnerable!  They fled violence with close to nothing and now live on plots assigned by the UN that are the size of 3 1/2 ping pong tables.

Yet, they make the most of it, like Margaret here who FARM STEW has trained in farming and sanitation.

‍See her eggplants and her dish drying rack behind her?  These can make a huge difference!

As an added blessing, we'll be joined by Jen and Edwin Dysinger who are well known in Adventist Agricultural circles.  They both have masters in Public Health and served ministries Africa for 16 years.  Now they've joined forces with FARM STEW as a member (Edwin) of our Board of Directors.

What will we be doing?

  • Leading out in camp meetings while tent camping
  • Visiting with people FARM STEW is already helping, and
  • Engaging in intensive training on agriculture, health and nutrition

Then, with a smaller group, I'll head south to near the source of the Nile River.  There we've been equipping:

  • Orphanages,
  • Women'sPrisons,
  • Islamic Girls Schools,
  • Churches and more.

I’ look forward to sharing updates, and invite you to pray with me!

Quotes
"I am 14 years old, and I started my period this year. My first day I felt shy and I missed school... It is not easy to find pads in my village and the few here are very expensive to buy. These new pads are going to protect me when I am having my period. Since they are reusable, I am not going to worry anymore when my periods come!"
Pads

Freedom from Shame

Everyday thousands of African girls drop out of school. WHY? Their monthly cycle, period.  You can help these girls stay in school with washable cloth pads, panties and confidence for 15$ per girl.
Our goal is 5000 girls in 2020!
