Thank you for transforming the lives of Christine and the FARM STEW Savings Club in Pagirinya Refugee Camp with you generous gifts!
Christine is one of many widows in the Pagirinya refugee camp who lost their husbands in the 2016 South Sudanese war. After her husband’s death, she struggled to provide for herself and her four children, relying solely on the meager support given by the United Nations. When FARM STEW came to her refugee camp in November 2018, they helped establish a savings club. Christine decided to join.
A year later, when the savings club met to distribute their funds, she received more than 300,000 Ugandan shillings (over $80 in US dollars). She immediately took this money and invested it in a small business in the Pagirinya trading center where she is now able to make enough money to support her family. “I can now afford the basic needs of my children,” said Christine. While talking recently to FARM STEW trainer Amon, Christine said that she still participates in the savings club and is looking forward to the next distribution of funds.
“Big plans are waiting!” she exclaimed.
