Nyigoro is a village situated in Jur River County, in the eastern and northeastern parts of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan. Home to 50 households, the community is currently undergoing training to improve livelihoods and wellbeing. So far, 16 households have successfully achieved certification, and the village is working towards full certification of all households by the end of the year. The people of Nyigoro largely depend on agriculture and cattle herding for survival. While farming provides food during the rainy season, families often struggle during the dry months when food supplies run short, leading to cycles of hunger and malnutrition. Like many rural communities in South Sudan, Nyigoro faces multiple hardships. Extreme poverty is driven by food insecurity, recurrent displacement from conflict and climate change, and a lack of access to basic services such as clean water, healthcare, and education. Despite these challenges, the community is eager to learn, adapt, and work towards building a more food-secure and sustainable future.
