The FARM STEW Blog

A lifeless theory vs. a living force

Joy Kauffman

A lifeless theory vs. a living force.

That is the essence of FARM STEW: taking God's word and applying it in powerful ways.

And the world needs a powerful force for good right now more than ever.

Because of you, the practical gospel of FARM STEW is going forth. Our trainers are bringing this powerful force into villages around the world every day.

I am so blessed to be one of FARM STEW's ambassadors, sharing Jesus’ love and plan for abundant life. Last week I was in India, where1.4 billion people live—yet less than 3% know Jesus. I got to share this good news with 375 pastors and 417 schoolchildren.

Thank you for sharing the practical gospel with these leaders in India.

Together, we learned the best way to wash our hands with a fun experiment involving sparkles as fake germs! The pastors and children learned how to use their clean hands to measure out a garden and to make compost. They learned why eating the rainbow of fruits and vegetables they can now grow will help to keep them healthy.

This is pioneering work that explores what FARM STEW can accomplish in this new country and context. This work is amazingly gratifying. And it is only possible because you are part of this powerful life force.

Your support means that together we are able to obey the great commission and call of the three angels' message to take the (practical)everlasting gospel to all “those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people.” Revelation 14:6

The response from Bible workers, school teachers, and Division/Union leaders in India has been incredible! Not to mention the kids' grateful hearts and beautiful smiles—my favorite part.

With your help, we can share abundant blessings all around the world.

Leaders in India, like in the other countries where FARM STEW has arrived, are hungry for a gospel message that (as Jesus said in Luke 4:18) is good news for the poor, brokenhearted, captives, blind, and oppressed. They are looking for a message that can make a difference. When we showed them what FARM STEW can do, they wanted to know, “When can we start?”

Because we have 10 years of experience equipping families to move from extreme poverty to an abundant life, because we have seen the needs in this new place, and because we have heard their request for help, we can boldly say that FARM STEW can be a blessing in India, too.

Your generosity will enable us to launch the work there without delay. I am already locating translators and trainers and preparing a strategy to get us started.

It costs $444 to train, equip, and coach an entire family—lifting them from extreme poverty to a life of freedom and abundance in Christ.

That means just $37 a month, or $1.25 a day as a monthly gift, will change one family’s life forever.

What are the results when FARM STEW shares its recipe? Here are a few recent examples of that living force in action elsewhere.

Growing Carrots, Cabbage, and Character

In Burundi, East Africa, families struggled to grow enough nutritious food. The soil was depleted. Children were undernourished. Hope was thin.

These abundant harvests are the result of your generosity.

Through FARM STEW training—Farming, Attitude, Rest, Meals, Sanitation, Temperance, Enterprise, and Water—families learned to compost, space seeds correctly, rotate crops, and build healthy soil.

Soon, carrots began growing where they had never grown before. Cabbage heads grew bigger than human heads! And this root crop, held by our trainer, blew everyone away!

But more importantly, character grew. Planning replaced dependence. Enterprise replaced resignation. Faith replaced fear.

Those who were trained are now training others. It reminds me of these inspired words.

“The gospel invitation is not to be narrowed down and presented only to a select few, who, we suppose, will do us honor if they accept it. The message is to be given to all. When God blesses His children, itis not alone for their own sake, but for the world’s sake. As He bestows His gifts on us, it is that we may multiply them by imparting.” — Ellen G. White

Your gift today will multiply this life-giving force in Burundi and beyond! 2026 is all about multiplying the FARM STEW recipe, sharing the message farther and wider.

These FARM STEW Virtual Learning Community leaders will share abundant life in 10 languages!

And India is not the only new country where we hope to pioneer the FARM STEW message this year. As I write, I am in Malawi, Africa, where our FARM STEW Virtual Learning Community team is headquartered. We started 2026 with an exciting session, bringing ten experts from around the world to Malawi to be trained in the FARM STEW principles and in virtual instruction. This way, we can begin sharing the recipe for abundant life virtually any where, starting with ten of the most spoken languages in the world. If you want to see what we are up to, this short video our new trainers produced, gives a quick overview: https://www.farmstew.org/blog/vlc

Natampod, Philippines:

Meanwhile, our existing program in Natampod in the Philippines continues, thanks to you. Mothers are learning to prevent anemia with iron-rich foods. Families are learning and practicing improved sanitation principles that reduce illness. Gardens are mulched and children are beginning to thrive.

But all of this takes time, and investment.
