Saulosi is a community that has long faced economic and social challenges. Farming is the only significant source of income, but the lack of water pumps and other agricultural tools makes production difficult and limits what people can achieve. This dependence on a single activity has constrained the community’s growth and left little room for alternative sources of income. Social challenges have also been significant. In the past, the area struggled with high levels of smoking, drinking, and domestic violence. While some of these issues still exist, positive changes are emerging thanks to FARM STEW initiatives. Members who once engaged in harmful habits are now moving away from them, focusing instead on productive and sustainable activities. People with gardens are able to supply their harvest to neighbors and earn a small income, slowly building financial independence. A notable example is a divorced woman who has turned her garden into a source of livelihood for herself and her children. Additionally, through careful management and participation in VSLA savings groups, she has not only been able to support her family but also save enough money to plan for building a new home in the coming months. Stories like hers show how practical skills, determination, and community support are helping Saulosi residents regain control over their lives and create opportunities where there were few before.
