Gunyoro

Gunyoro is a small rural village located near Torit in Eastern Equatoria State. The community is home to about 600 families who have returned after years of displacement caused by conflict. Families here rely primarily on subsistence farming, cultivating crops such as sorghum, maize, and groundnuts. The local school has reopened, but much of its infrastructure remains damaged, and resources are scarce. Gunyoro faces widespread poverty. Farming yields are often low due to poor soils, limited tools, and unpredictable rainfall. Access to clean water, healthcare, and education is inadequate, leaving many households vulnerable. Children study in damaged classrooms with little to no learning materials, and families struggle to meet daily needs. Poverty in Gunyoro is persistent and deeply felt, especially among women and children.
