Tigwirizane

Tigwirizane community is a rural village in Mambwe district in the Eastern region. The population is between 700 to 1000.The locals are subsistence farmers who survive by growing maize, soy and groundnuts. However, the yields in the fields are very poor and a handful receive farming inputs from the government. As such there is increased dependency as families do not manage to have enough food to sustain them throughout the year. Most,if not all the seeds they plant are from the seed companies and its mostly white maize. They have no access to a wide variety of seeds. Despite having access to education, many children are not in school as they have to work from time to time with their parents in other people’s fields to have food. Early marriages are also very high and the chain of poverty keeps stretching. There are also so many diarrhea cases, despite them having a community borehole.
