Rest is a period of freedom from labor and productivity. It is essential for good health. We live in a production oriented world, yet God demonstrated that rest is appropriate and right. Jesus led a very active ministry, yet He demonstrated this principle when He and His disciples left on a boat to get away from the crowd. Just as He took quiet time to seek His Father's will, our times of rest refresh us for times of service.
We encourage adequate nightly rest (7-8 hours/night for adults, more for children) and a weekly day of rest.
We emphasize the importance of rest for the soil. Land that is cultivated without regard to rest can quickly become depleted and loose productivity. When possible, leaving soil fallow for a year once every seven years has demonstrated a positive long-term effect and has Biblical basis.
